3 Strategies to Juggling It All

ā€œHow Do You Juggle Everything?ā€

Thatā€™s itā€” my most-asked question.

Between STUDIIO, Full Time Filmmaker, Happy Creatiive, LandonBTW, Worth the Follow, Linusā€¦ AND a wife and two little kids.

How do I manage everything?

Truthfully, Iā€™m still figuring it out in many ways, so if I can instill a bit of self-confidence in you: No one knows what theyā€™re doing, so cut yourself some slack.

There are, however, techniques and mindset shifts that Iā€™ve developed to help me juggle it all, while staying happy and enjoying the process of creative entrepreneurship.

And thatā€™s what Happy Creatiive Coaching is all aboutā€” giving you the guidance and support you need to be a happy creative. It doesnā€™t launch for another week, but you can Register Here for my free live event on May 15th.

Now, let me preface this whole email by saying that I donā€™t believe thereā€™s a one-size-fits-all approach to time management.

We all operate differently and are motivated by different things, but hereā€™s what has worked for me:

  1. The Two-Minute Rule

Here's the basic concept: If you have a task that needs to get done and itā€™ll take two minutes or less to complete it, do it immediately.

Revolutionary, I know.

But seriously, the smaller tasks can often be the most overwhelming because there seems to be an endless amount of them all the time.

I've personally found that when I'm really overwhelmed, it's usually because I have a dozen small things that need to get done.

And when I have a dozen small tasks floating around in my mind, Iā€™m taking mental energy away from the bigger, more important tasks.

Sending off that quick email, talking to a client, posting on Instagramā€“Whatever it is for you, see if you can do it in two minutes or less.

I think we often make a big deal out of a task that could be done within two minutes, but before we know it, thirty minutes have gone by and then we decide to reward ourselves with an hour break watching other people who are making their dreams happen.

Once you choose to be deliberate with your time and start quickly checking off those smaller completed tasks, youā€™ll feel the momentum throughout your day.

  1. Flexible Focus Sessions

One thing I learned from Parker is the importance of scheduling ā€œdeep focus sessionsā€.

A ā€˜Focus Sessionā€™ is when you dedicate a chunk of time (3-ish hours) to lock yourself in and get things done.

I hate traditional time-blockingā€¦

If I were to say, "Ok, from 9 to 10, Iā€™m going to script that video. From 11 to 1, Iā€™m going to shoot that video. From 2-4, Iā€™m going to edit that videoā€¦ā€

I would find myself getting burned out fast. You would think this approach would help me be more productive, but it actually had the inverse effect.

If I'm forcing myself to be creative from 9 to 10, but I'm really not in a creative mood, it's really hard to be like, "Okay, I gotta switch my brain to creative mode."

Instead, finish those emails or work on the backend of your business. Allow your mind to just work on what it's inspired to fire on in that moment.

You donā€™t need to feel forced into working on something just because itā€™s ā€œscheduledā€.

If you can find two, sometimes three focus sessions sprinkled throughout each day, youā€™ll be amazed at what you can get done!

After a good Focus Session, my mind needs a break before I go at it again.

So I might go walk around STUDIIO and chat with our team, have lunch with my family, or clean up and organize the gear cage.

I find that after a good little break, Iā€™m a lot more motivated to get back to work.

Try it out and find what works best for you.

  1. Strive For Work/Life Harmony

The third thing I'm going to say here is having a good work life balance, but maybe not in the traditional sense.

I've said work life balance for so long, I've actually started saying ā€˜Work/Life Harmonyā€™ because of a video I saw from Jeff Bezos.

He said he doesn't like the term ā€˜work life balanceā€™, but prefers ā€˜Work Life Harmony.ā€™

When you try to balance the two perfectly, itā€™s really hard to do, especially as an entrepreneur and content creator.

But the more you can actually mesh the two, the easier it is to find harmony between everythingā€“To enjoy working and also enjoy the time you have with your family while not feeling like youā€™re taking time away from either of them.

I'll give you an example.

Iā€™ve started implementing my family in a lot of the content that I create.

So when my wife wanted to do a Disneyland trip, I was like, "Okay, how can I make this be kind of a work thing?"

And not in a selfish way, but how can I maximize the time here and make really good content for the business at the same time?

So we ended up making a YouTube tutorial video with footage from our trip.

PLUS, that part of the trip turned into a business expense that I could write off.

With all that being said, do I think you should always be working around family?

Of course not.

Thereā€™s a time and a place for everything, and I think being conscious of where you blur those lines is really important.

You don't want to always be distracted with family when trying to work.

And you shouldnā€™t be working during dedicated family time.

I think having a hard cut off for work most days is important so you can be 100% present with your family and everything else that makes up your life.

But donā€™t be afraid to merge the two when itā€™s appropriate.

You just have to be really self aware of how often you're doing that and how your partner, your family, and whoever else feels about you doing that.

They need to know they come first at the end of the day.

I've been doing this content creator/entrepreneur thing for about a decade now, and if I had had the tools back then that I have now, I wouldā€™ve been far better equipped to cope with my anxiety, gained more mental clarity and increased my productivity, while achieving my goals in half the time.

And that's the purpose of this coaching programā€“To give you the resources and support you need to help you live your version of a fulfilling life quickly.

So if this sounds like something that might help you, sign up for the live event on May 15th!

Iā€™ll also be sending you some more videos in the coming days leading up the to event, so watch out for those!

In my next video Iā€™ll be having a conversation with Garrett King, aka shortstache where we talk about mental health.

I think youā€™re gonna like it.
